Why I'm Considering Voting for Bruce

Posted on: Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at 06:25PM

For this upcoming state governor race, I decided to consider voting for Bruce Blakeman. And I have a series of reasons why so I decided it would work better as a blog post than any other format.

But first, let’s go over a bit of background:

My Liberal Era

Even though I always treaded the center in politics, probably for 2016 and prior, I was more of a moderate liberal than a moderate conservative. I disliked some of the conservative viewpoints on most topics except for the second amendment. Mainly because for the few topics that I swayed right on, Democrats at the time were more open-minded than Republicans, who mostly were very against me for most topics.

That started shifting in 2016, after Trump won that election, Democrats and liberals just started getting more whiny and shifting into enforcing ideological purity a lot more than Republicans were at the time. Which naturally counted me out.

And according to Democrats, Trump cheated during that election and installed himself dictator and we were all doomed to have him be our President forever.

That notion was proven wrong once so far by the results of the 2020 election.

In between no meaningful actions were taken on election security, except for HRC and Jill Stein calling for a bunch of recounts, yet according to Democrats, our elections were the most secure thing ever and Trump was insane for doubting the results by calling for a recount. The only difference being that it was them who got the results they wanted.

While the Republicans got a bit whiny especially over COVID mandates and some of the authoritarian moves Biden made, like Using the IRS to target conservatives or Coordinated Debanking , something weird happened within their party after they were done with that pity fest mid-2022.

They started allowing more cognitive diversity.

While Democrats started doubling down on things that either don’t matter to regular people or were downright weird. Such as allowing biologically intact men in women’s sports (despite Post 1-year HRT Transgender women retaining a physical advantage over cisgender women ), trying to change social norms so much that they disrespect cisgender women by referring them by terms such as “birthing person,” and doubling down on anti-AI rhetoric the moment has a chance to keep major corporations in check by allowing we the people to duplicate proprietary software.

Yep, I’ve been noticing.

The decline of my hometown

Lately, especially, I have been noticing the changes in our hometown. And it all started with bail reform. Pretty much because police and judges aren’t allowed to jail petty criminals anymore, we must let them do a string of crimes from the moment of their first arrest to the time their court date comes and they’re finally allowed to sentence them to prison.

Or let them kill somebody.

Even in cases where one of them is terminally ill and has burned every bridge they had with their family, they get released on the “compassionate release” program; into nothing but housing insecurity, a lack of legitimate pain medication, and no way to keep required mental stabilization meds going. The result: They terrorize our small towns until they die or our county judge figures out some premise which allows them to bus them to a bigger city with the mental health programs to help them.

Or until they kill somebody.

Every resident is on edge, not hoping for, but anticipating the moment some antisocial criminal breaks into their home and threatens their family with a weapon, improvised or otherwise.

And they just might get killed trying to defend themselves or their family.

And you get the pattern here. This lax-on-crime approach has a dozen different ways that can attribute to the deaths of law-abiding victims.

Skyrocketing electric bills

One thing I still agree with the left on is reducing emissions and general environmental conservation. But, it is no mystery that New York State’s rollout of green energy has been abysmal at best.

You see, when one shuts down nuclear plants , with no capacity to replace them, nor a plan to replace the capacity; you end up with a declining grid capacity .

Then you increase demand via mandating EV’s , mandate EV school buses, and mandate electric heat and stoves ; you end up with an increasing demand.

My AOS degree’s major isn’t in economics, but I can tell people what this does to prices.

I’m no fan of Trump’s conflict in Iran, but importing more power than ever from Canada has made us prime victims for paying tariffs and increased costs on burning natural gas, to make up for supply shortfalls.

Backstabbing the right-to-repair movement

Yes, I’m still salty on this.

Hochul sided with TechNet on neutering the Fair Repair Act , as she sent it back to legislature to have two provisions added; allowing parts to be sold as “assemblies” (which is what they were doing prior which lead to some of the anti-repair mess) and labelling parts as security features to avoid having to sell them to independent repair facilities.

So I think this should be attributed to Governor Kathy Hochul’s willingness to backstab her own constituents for some reelection funding, instead of being swept under the rug like her fellow Democrats seem to be doing.

And even the White House is calling to end OEM repair monopolies, so even if Blakeman is this MAGA-puppet that Hochul’s campaign says he is, then he shouldn’t be too anti right to repair.

Backstabbing corrections officers

Those who aren’t in the know, NY state passed a series of laws which were unfavorable among Corrections Officers, enough to lead to short staffing and overtime requirements, making state prisons generally unsafe for CO’s.

One of these was some provisions of the HALT Act.

Union requests to make adjustments to this law was met with utter silence, so some employees in the union resorted to a wildcat strike.

Instead of visiting the potential changes, Governor Hochul, sought vengeance, by firing 2,000 CO’s, a handful weren’t even involved in the strike; and banned them from future state, county, or city CO employment. A move which was largely criticized by lawmakers .

When having your tactics criticized, it’s best to just double down and decimate your opponents. It’s the Democrat way.

I must try something else

With these issues and more, I think it’s insane not to try something else, even if it’s piss-stained brown grass on the other side. Because we know what we’re currently doing isn’t working well and if we don’t boot Hochul and the Democrats to the curb even if for just one term, then I feel they will never learn to back their constituents through fire and fury.

Because doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result is the definition of insanity after all.

That is crazy
